Sat 12 June from 1pm: LIBRARIES & MUSEUMS & ARCHIVES (Oh My!)
A one-day conference held online via Zoom, raising money for the Folklore Library and Archive’s urgent appeal to save the 50 years’ worth of archive documents of the late folklorist Venetia Newall. Speakers from some of the UK’s top institutions will be giving presentations, with a chance to ask questions and talk about topics raised. Ticket gives access to the entire day and all ticket holders will be able to access private video replays of anything they can’t get to live after the event. Presenters include:
THE BRITISH MUSEUM: Jim Peters – Collections manager (Dept of Prehistory and Europe): Some favourite objects from the collections
NATIONAL SCIENCE AND MEDIA MUSEUM: Alexandra Stockdale-Haley – Collections Assistant: The Cottingley Fairy artefacts and their role in the modern day
THE BRITISH LIBRARY: Stella Wisdom (Digital curator) and Cheryl Tipp (Curator of Wildlife and Environmental Sounds) will take you for a virtual walk on the wild side! A talk on how digitised sound recordings from the Library’s sound archive have been innovatively used to create atmospheric soundscapes in videogames.
